AutismAccording to the Autism Society of America, autism is one of the fastest-growing developmental disabilities. Autism occurs 1 in every 150 births. Signs of autism include impaired social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication problems and repetitive behaviors or obsessive interests to the point where it interferes with normal living. Research has shown that early intervention with education and social behavior will help improve the quality of life for a child with autism. The earlier you start the better. Be Smart Kids is a fast paced interactive learning system that allows for educational learning as well as interaction with the child. For the past 15 years Be Smart Kids has worked with children with autism. We use a computerized, skill-building, fun process built into lesson plans that wires the brain of the young child. The BSK Process addresses the areas of language, vocabulary, math & logic, spatial and visual skills, fine motor skills, social and emotional skills and music. Read Eric’s story! The story of a very special child that has achieved success. The Be Smart Kids program involves both child and adult in a one-on-one process. There are 2 sections inside each lesson plan. The first section is for the adult to prepare for the child's lesson. Included are objectives, tutorials and teaching instructions. The second section is for adult and child. Each lesson you do with the child contains on the average 10 to 13 activities. Each lesson should only last up to 30 minutes and only be done once a week. Be Smart Kids is broken down into four series. For most autistic children, we recommend you begin with Series 1; however, there are exceptions. If you have a question as to where your child should begin, call Donna Blevins, BSK's Educational Researcher, at 1-423-636-8655.
