How to take the Assessments:

Answer “Yes” or “No” to the assessment questions for the level your child has completed. For example, when your child finishes Be Smart Kids level A, Lesson 10, answer the questions in the Be Smart Kids, Level A, Assessment. If you answer “Yes” to all the questions your child should move to the next level. If you answer “No” to any of the questions, return to the first Lesson of the Be Smart Kids level you just completed and repeat all of the lessons, teaching one lesson a week as if beginning again. It is not unusual for a child to repeat a level. Repeating lessons does not indicate failure.

Be Smart Kids, Level A

  1. Does your child help in tracing the letters with his/her pointer finger? The tracing does not have to be perfect.
  2. When you point to a letter or key, can your child press it?
  3. Does your child click the mouse as instructed?
  4. Does your child understand that when you move the mouse, it moves the cursor on the screen?
  5. Does your child know at least two numbers?
  6. Does your child know at least two shapes?
  7. Does your child have an attention span of at least 20 minutes?

Be Smart Kids, Level B

  1. Can your child maintain an attention span of at least 30 minutes?
  2. Does your child respond well to directions?
  3. Can your child tap the keyboard with a pointer finger without help (arrow, letter and number keys)?
  4. Can your child click the mouse?
  5. Can your child move the mouse?
  6. Does your child identify at least four colors?
  7. Does your child recognize at least four shapes?
  8. Can your child count up to five objects without your help?
  9. Does your child recognize the numbers 1,2,3,4 and 5?
  10. Does your child recognize more than 11 uppercase letters?
  11. Does your child know the sounds of some letters?
  12. Does your child understand how to match objects?

Be Smart Kids, Level C

  1. Can your child identify all uppercase letters of the alphabet?
  2. Does your child recognize at least ten lowercase letters?
  3. Can your child identify at least ten letter sounds?
  4. Does your child recognize that words begin with a letter and it produces a sound?
  5. Does your child recognize numbers 0-10?
  6. Can your child count up to eight objects without your help?
  7. Can your child identify at least eight colors?
  8. Does your child recognize at least eight shapes?
  9. Does your child respond well when taking turns during a game?
  10. Does your child recognize there is more than one spoken language?

Be Smart Kids, Level D

  1. Does your child recognize at least 15 lowercase letters?
  2. Can your child identify at least 15 letter sounds?
  3. Does your child associate sounds with letters?
  4. Does your child associate words with objects and actions?
  5. Can your child count up to ten objects without your help?
  6. Can your child distinguish between different shades of colors?
  7. Can your child identify things that are the same?
  8. Can your child distinguish between different musical selections?

Be Smart Kids, Level E

  1. Does your child recognize all uppercase and lowercase letters
  2. Can your child identify most letter sounds?
  3. Can your child distinguish between beginning and ending sounds?
  4. Does your child conceptually understand middle sounds and vowel sounds?
  5. Does your child conceptually understand addition and subtraction?
  6. Can your child count more than ten objects without your help?
  7. Is your child beginning to identify numbers higher than ten?
  8. Does your child understand the concept of same and different?
  9. Can your child recognize patterns?
  10. Can your child identify words that rhyme?

How to take the Assessments:

  6. Can your child distinguish between greater than, less than and equal to?
  7. Does your child recognize the plus (+), minus (-) and equal (=) signs?
  8. Does your child understand how to blend sounds from words?
  9. Can your child spell some three letter words?
  10. Does your child recognize at least three short vowels?
  11. Does your child understand the concept of long vowel sounds?
  12. Does your child understand the concept of hours on a clock?
